西藏的石雕藝術是因為西藏的宗教而產生的，源遠流長，分佈甚廣。從遠古巨石崇拜的遺存，至散佚於大山大野之間的瑪尼石，比比皆是。以往國內外對西藏雕刻藝術的評介，往往偏重於寺院與貴族所藏的金銅作品，而忽視名不見經傳的民間石刻藝術，致使這異常豐厚的西藏的石雕藝術是因為西藏的宗教而產生的，源遠流長，分佈甚廣。從遠古巨石崇拜的遺存，至散佚於大山大野之間的瑪尼石，比比皆是。以往國內外對西藏雕刻藝術的評介，往往偏重於寺院與貴族所藏的金銅作品，而忽視名不見經傳的民間石刻藝術，致使這異常豐厚的藝術瑰寶，鮮為人知。
藏族無論男女，都離不開佩戴飾品，這些飾品如天珠、珊瑚、綠松石、蜜蠟等，都是西藏石器手工的精華。
1、石刻
在西藏的民間雕刻藝術中，若論數量之多、分佈之廣的，首推瑪尼石刻。在西藏，凡是能到之處，無不有瑪尼堆存在。瑪尼堆是構成西藏高原宗教氛圍的重要環節。瑪尼堆也稱「十萬經石」堆，是人為的神聖所在。據雕刻匠說，這些石頭上的經文是應死者親屬的要求而刻的。一般說來，刻《度母經》的比較多。雖然扁幅不長，但通常要刻大大小小幾十塊石頭呢！更多的只刻六字真言就行了。除了刻在石板上的瑪尼石刻，也有刻在岩石上的摩崖石刻。
西藏各地的瑪尼石刻因各自需求、趣味和材質的不同，呈現出不同的風格趨向。西部阿里的鵝卵石瑪尼古刻古典高雅；前、後藏腹心地帶瑪尼石刻較少圖案但尚存少量珍品。只有在藏東，充滿宗教感的紅山脈紅土地上，高聳的瑪尼石堆歷經千年風雨，在寺旁、鄉間顛連成片。歲月在這些紅褐色的苔蘚，顯出古舊的年代感。線刻紋路也風化得模糊，但掩飾不住令驚歎的藝術魅力。各類神祇的造型具有極高的審美價值，渾圓的土紅卵石無邊無際地密密麻麻地刻滿了生動的藏文，充滿了宇宙感。這些石頭上的生命兀自靜默，構成一個超越時空的高渺而永恆的境界。

2、「擦擦」(tsha--tsha)
「擦擦」（一詞源於梵文的sa-chaya, 意思是「真相」或「複製」）是一種用凹形金屬模具塑造的一種小泥塔或小泥像。
將泥土和好後放入各種模具內，填滿，去掉多餘的泥，抹平，在平板上下扣，曬乾後放在寺院周圍，祭祀山神處，煨桑台等聖地。有的在泥土裡摻進金、銀、綠松石、瑪瑙、珍珠、珊瑚等寶石的粉末以示貴重，還有將活佛火化後的骨灰與泥土一起混合製成擦擦，多作為聖物給佛塔、佛像裝藏。民間也有習慣當家人去世後，將其骨灰和泥做成擦擦放到各個神聖的地方。
3、玉石碗
提起玉石碗，人們便想起日咯則仁布縣來。仁布縣境內玉石蘊藏豐富，且色澤多樣，有綠色、綠白色的。豐富的玉石礦藏使仁布成了玉石碗的故鄉。
仁布的玉石碗經過粗打、細磨和雕刻等工序，可以製成各式透明、美觀、耐用、風格獨特的碗。加上在碗外壁刻上各種花紋，便成為貴重物品了。
